E3 2011: Day One: My Highlights

Day one of E3 2011 has come and gone. Here are some of my highlights.

Halo

Microsoft announced the long anticapted Halo 4, plus a remake of the original game Halo Anniversery. looks like I'll finally be picking this up.





Assassin's Creed Revelations

Despite Ubisoft's press conference being a complete and utter joke, they did manage to show off a awasome trailer and demo for Assassin's Creed Revelations. That's some impressive looking CGI.





Uncharted 3

The best game of the day was, of course, Uncharted 3, which looks amazing as ever.



Star Trek

A new game based on the recent Star Trek movie was announced. What? A Star Trek game that's not a lame top down shooter?



Sony Vita

The biggest hightlight of the day for me, and my most anticipated thing of the entire show, was Sony's new handheld. The Sony Vita{which is still a lame name} will cost $249 for the Wi Fi verison and $300 for the 3G version. The Vita will have a touch screen, a rear touch pad, front and rear cameras, basically everything but the kitchen sink. Sony did do some demos of the games, most notably Uncharted Portable, which looks pretty good.

Review: X-men: First Class

Rating: 7.5/10

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN.

I have a odd relationship with X-men: First Class. When this movie was first announced, I wasn't so sure about. But the trailers completely sold me on it. Now after seeing the movie, I'm kinda back to the way I felt before the trailers. I did really enjoy First Class, but it didn't wow me as much as some. And I'm not completely sure why I didn't like the movie as much I as I thought I would. I can't quite put my finger on it. The biggest problem I had with the movie was that other than the two main actors, nobody really stood out. Everyone else feels overshadowed. Apparently, they gave Emma Frost a new power, and that's the inability to act. I also feel that First Class suffers from the same problem X-men: The Last Stand did, one too many characters. But thankfully, it doesn't feel so over bloated as that movie did.

Thankfully though, the good outweighs the bad. The movie is well paced with some GREAT action scenes{particularly that end battle}. James Mcavoy and Micheal Fasbender are excellent as Xaveir and Magneto. There's even a cameo by Hugh Jackman, which I know people are probably tired of Wolverine by now. But it's only like five seconds, and it is pretty funny.

I'd put X-men First Class somewhere between X2 and X3. Good but not great. But still, I'd say it's worth a watch if you're a X-men fan. 7.5/10.
